The Deutsche Bundesbank is presenting Germany’s multifaceted culture as part of the European Central Bank’s European Cultural Days, a series of events which will be taking place between 17 October and 1 December 2016. Teaming up with cultural institutions from Frankfurt, the Bundesbank and ECB have put together a rich and varied programme ranging from classical orchestral concerts and modern dance to literature and contemporary art.
“I’m delighted that Germany will be hosting this year’s European Cultural Days,” Bundesbank President Jens Weidmann said, explaining that it would allow the Bundesbank, Germany’s central bank, to showcase the country’s vibrant cultural landscape. In times in which Europe is losing its shine, noted Mr Weidmann, cultural events are an opportunity to hark back to a common traditional heritage without losing sight of the hallmarks that make individual regions and cultures so unique.
The events making up this year’s European Cultural Days address topics that are in the spotlight throughout Europe, like homeland, flight and growing old. “The programme was designed to be both entertaining and thought-provoking,” Mr Weidmann added. “We hope it gives our visitors both a wide-ranging and surprising view of German culture.”
