UN climate conference: greenhouse gas emissions down by 27% since 1990
Participants from more than 190 countries attended the UN climate conference in Marrakech from 7 to 18 November to discuss how to implement the goals of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. The Agreement aims to limit the rise in global temperatures to less than two degrees centigrade by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The goal of the Federal Government’s national sustainability strategy is to lower greenhouse gas emissions in Germany by the year 2020 by at least 40% compared to 1990. According to provisional results, the emissions decreased by roughly 27.2% between 1990 and 2015. Compared with the previous year, this was a slight increase in greenhouse gas emissions, which dropped by 27.7% between 1990 and 2014.
