Headline: January to September 2016: business insolvencies down 5.2%

WIESBADEN – In the months from January to September 2016, German local courts reported 16,480 business insolvencies. According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) this was a decline of 5.2% compared with the same period a year earlier. The number of consumer insolvencies amounted to 58,619 between January and September 2016, with the number of cases being down 1.9% from the first nine months of 2015. Including insolvencies of other private debtors and deceased persons’ estates, total insolvency cases amounted to 93,052; that was a decrease of 2.4% compared with January to September 2015.Basic data and long time series are available in tables Insolvency proceedings (enterprises) (52411-0004) and Insolvency proceedings (other debtors) (52411-0009) in the GENESIS-Online database.
