Headline: 2.9% increase in naturalisations – especially of Britons – in 2016
WIESBADEN – The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that nearly 110,400 foreigners became naturalised German citizens in 2016. That was an increase of slightly more than 3,000, or 2.9%, compared with a year earlier. In the preceding two years, the number of naturalisations had declined. The number of citizens of the United Kingdom who were naturalised as German citizens increased in particular, which suggests some link with the Brexit issue.
Basic data and long time series are available in table Naturalisation of foreigners (12511-0001) in the GENESIS-Online database
