Headline: Extremely low cherry yields in 2017 due to late frost

WIESBADEN – Severe frosts during the blooming season at the end of April 2017 have led to substantial cherry harvest shortfalls in various regions. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that German farmers producing fruit for the market expect a total cherry yield of no more than 19,600 tonnes, according to a first estimate of 10 June 2017. This would be 61% less than the average over the past ten years (50,600 tonnes). Hence there is a real danger that cherry yields will be the lowest since German reunification. For further information: Bettina Leven, tel: +49 (0) 611 / 75 86 35,contact form
