WIESBADEN – In 2016, the youth welfare offices in Germany took temporary measures for the protection of 84,200 children and young people by taking them into care. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was an increase of 6,600 or 8.5% on 2015. Even though the increase was much lower than in the previous year (2015 on 2014: +61.6%), the number of temporary protective measures has nearly doubled since 2013, when it stood at 42,100. The persistently high level of children and young people who are taken into care is due to the entry of unaccompanied minors from abroad. For that reason, measures of protective care were taken for 44,900 children and young people in 2016, an increase of 2,600 or 6.2% on 2015.For further information:Dorothee von Wahl, tel: +49 (0) 611 / 75 81 41,contact form
