Headline: Horticulture 2016: markedly fewer holdings, larger utilised area

WIESBADEN – In 2016, 27,200 holdings cultivated well above 229,000 hectares of horticultural land in Germany. Based on the results of the 2016 census of horticulture, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of holdings growing horticultural products fell by almost one quarter (–24%) from 35,700 to 27,200 compared with the 2010 census of agriculture. In contrast, the utilised horticultural area increased by 5,800 hectares or 2.5% from 2010.
