Headline: Manufacturing in September 2017: New orders +1.0% seasonally adjusted on the previous month
WIESBADEN – Based on provisional data, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that price-adjusted new orders in manufacturing had increased in September 2017 a seasonally and working-day adjusted 1.0% on the previous month. In the past two months, German companies have received almost as many orders as they did before the economic and financial crisis end of 2007. For August 2017, revision of the preliminary outcome resulted in increase of 4.1% compared with July 2017 (primary +3.6%). Price-adjusted new orders without major orders in manufacturing had increased in September 2017 a seasonally and working-day adjusted 1.3% on the previous month.In September 2017, domestic orders decreased by 0.1% and foreign orders increased by 1.7% on the previous month. New orders from the euro area were up 6.3%, new orders from other countries decreased 1.0% compared to August 2017.
In September 2017 the manufacturers of intermediate goods saw new orders fall by 4.0% compared with August 2017. The manufacturers of capital goods showed increases of 4.9% on the previous month. For consumer goods, a decrease in new orders of 2.8% was recorded.
Turnover –1.8% seasonally adjusted on the previous month
The price-adjusted turnover in manufacturing in September 2017 was down a seasonally and working-day adjusted 1.8% on the previous month. In August 2017, it increased by 3.5% on July 2017 (primary +3.6%).
The data shown here on new orders and on turnover are based on the volume index of manufacturing, seasonally and working day adjusted by means of X-12-ARIMA. New orders and turnover are covered and evaluated in accordance with the Classification of Economic Activities, 2008 edition (WZ 2008). New orders are covered only in selected economic branches of manufacturing.
