Headline: Producer prices in 2017: +2.6% on 2016
WIESBADEN – In 2017 the index of producer prices for industrial products (domestic sales) for Germany increased by 2.6% on an annual average from the preceding year. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) this was the first increase on an annual average since 2012 (+ 1.6% compared with 2011). In 2016 the index had fallen by 1.7% compared with 2015.
Results of December 2017In December 2017 the index of producer prices for industrial products rose by 2.3% compared with the corresponding month of the preceding year. In November 2017 the annual rate of change all over had been +2.5.
Compared with the preceding month November 2017 the overall index rose by 0.2% in December 2017 (+0.1% in November and +0.3% in October).
In December 2017 the price indices of all main industrial groups increased compared with December 2016: Prices of intermediate goods rose by 3.1%. Energy prices were up 3.1% likewise, though the development of prices of the different energy carriers diverged. Prices of petroleum products increased by 3.3% and prices of electricity by 5.3%, whereas prices of natural gas (distribution) decreased by 4.1%. Prices of non-durable consumer goods rose by 1.8%. Prices of durable consumer goods increased by 1.3% and prices of capital goods by 1.1%.The overall index disregarding energy was 2.1% up on December 2016 and increased by 0.1% compared with November 2017.
